Day 03: TREK TO PISANG (3,185M / 10,450 FT)

We walk along the river to reach the village of Bratang (2,919 m), mainly populated by Tibetans. Here we stop for lunch. On the way Bratang we pass through a splendid pine forest with beautiful views of
Lamjung and Annapurna II and IV.
After lunch it is about a two-hour-walk to reach the top, where trekkers traditionally used to plant a pine sapling, not only to establish that they have made it to the top, but also to contribute to the reforestation of the area. We have to go down to Pisang (3,185 m) which takes about an hour to reach. There are neither houses nor any water resources on the way down. Dinner and overnight at
teahouse lodge.
4

Day 04: TREK TO MANANG (3,530 m/ 11,580 ft, 4 hrs)

After we have crossed the Pisang Khola there is a forty-five minutes steep climb up to a steep pass. From the top of the pass we get a glimpse of Paunda Danda (4,655 m), mount Pisang and Manang
valley, with right before you Mount Tilicho. On the way down to Hongde we come across a checkpost where the trekking permits will be again examined. We will have our lunch here until the permits are examined.
After lunch at Hongde the valley widens and we get to see the Annapurnas III and IV (7,555 m and 7525m) to the left, East and West Chulus (6,584 m and 6,419 m) on the right, towards the horizon there are views of highest peak of Mount Thorung (6,481 m) and to the east, the crown of MountPisang. From Hongde we climb up to the ancient village of Braga (3,505 m). We can take time to wander around Braga to see this picturesque village with its flat roofed houses and to visit the Gompa, not only the largest in the region but also the richest with its fine collection of Thangkas (religious scroll paintings) and prayer books. It takes only forty-five minutes to reach Manang from here, which sits on the plateau at 3,530 m. Dinner and overnight at teahouse lodge.
5

Day 05: REST DAY IN MANANG (3,530m / 11,580 ft.) ACCLIMATISATION WALK - 3 hrs

Spend a rest day in Manang for acclimatization. Today we hike up to Chongkor for some fabulous mountain views including the glacial lake of Gangapurna Tal. Dinner and overnight at teahouse lodge.
6

Day 06: TREK TO YAK KHARKA (4,250 m / 13,940 ft, 6-7 hrs)

After leaving Manang the path climbs up till we reach the hamlet of Tengi (3,642 m). From here it takes about an hour to reach Gunsang (3,850 m). From here it’s another one hour forty-five minutes up hill to Lattar (4,250 m). These Himalayan pastures are domains of yak, a bovine of Tibetan origin, reared for its wool, milk and to transport goods. The Thar, a kind of wild goat that lives in herds, is also found here. Dinner and overnight at teahouse lodge.
7

Day 07: TREK TO THORUNG PHEDI (4,220 m / 13,840 ft) AND CONTINUE TO HIGH CAMP (4,800 m / 15,745 ft, 6 hrs)

It normally takes about two hours to reach Thorung Phedi from Lattar, but owing to the high elevation we advise trekkers to walk slowly with frequent rests and water breaks in order to avoid getting sick at such an extreme elevation. Thorung Phedi means ‘foot of the hill’ and it is situated at a height of 4,220 m on a small hill overlooking a high plateau.
After lunch at Thorung Phedi continue ascent for another 2 hours to the High Camp. Not because it is very high, but it is closer to Thorung La pass and saves trekkers approx 3-4 hours while crossing the main Thorung la pass the following day. Dinner and overnight at teahouse lodge.
8

Day 08: TREK OVER THORUNG LA PASS (5,416m /17, 770 ft) AND DESCENT TO MUKTINATH (3,802 m / 12,530 ft, 9-10 hrs) AND DRIVE TO JOMSOM (2,713 m / 8,900 ft.)

Very early morning wakeup call and start the ascent to Thorung la pass. We have to cross about twenty hills on the way to reach the summit, Thorong la, at 5,415 meters and it takes about 4 hours to reach the main pass from Thorung Phedi, but if we have spent the previous night at High Camp it will take appx 2-3 hours only. On the way up we get to see many prayer flags several cairns (small mounds of rock).
From the top we get to see the Yakgawa Kang or Thorungse (6481m) to the north and Khatung Kang (6484) to the south and the Annapurnas along with the Gangapurna to the southeast. In the horizon to the west, Dhaulagiri (8,169 m) and Mount Tukuche (6,920 m) are also visible. From the summit the descent to Muktinath (3,802 m) takes about three hours and the difference in altitude is of 1600m. Here we will find another check post where we have to show our trekking permits. After some rest in Jomsom walk to the public jeep station and drive Jomsom. Dinner and overnight at teahouse lodge.
