Bhutan is no ordinary place. It is a Himalayan kingdom with a reputation for mystery and magic, full of fortress (dzongs) and monasteries. Bhutan is all about traditional Buddhist culture which includes the famous tsechus (dance festivals), textiles and handicrafts & extreme archery(sports) competitions. So our 7 day adventurous trip will allow you to witness Bhutan’s pristine nature & you will enjoy the solitude of the Temple Mountains as we explore the local mountains ranges. Food, accommodation & travel amenities will be provided throughout the tour and our professional tour guides are always there to help you in whatever way you want them to. So get ready to hit this landlocked state also known as the land of the ‘Thunder Dragon’ and have a soulful trip of a lifetime with ‘Getupandgo’.
Day 01: ARRIVE IN PARO (2,195m / 7,200 ft)
Arrive in Paro by Druk Air/Bhutan Airline. The flight offers you beautiful views of mountains and landscapes. On arrival and after immigration formalities you will be received by our representative and transfer to Thimphu (54 kms, 1 – 1/2 hrs). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02: THIMPU (2,320m / 7,611 ft)
Visit the Memorial chorten built in the memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, 15 century Changangkha monastery, Motithang mini zoo to see the rare ‘Takin’, the national animal of Bhutan. Visit the painting school and spend some time in the market. In the afternoon visit the awesome Golden Buddha offering spectacular city and valley views. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: THIMPU- PUNAKHA (2,350 m / 7,710 ft; 3 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Punkha by crossing the Dochula pass at 3,100 metres. On fine weather you will see the eastern Himalayan ranges including the highest mountain in Bhutan, Mt.Gangar Punsum (7,520 metres). The drive from the pass is all the way downhill dropping to the lower and warmer valleys of Lobesa. In the afternoon visit Punakha Dzong which served as an old capital of Bhutan. This remarkable fortress is built between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. Overnight at the hotel.
Drive 04: PUNAKHA – PARO (45 min)
Set off early to Paro. On the way visit the oldest building in Bhutan, the Simtokha Dzong. It now serves as a Buddhist university. In the afternoon proceed through the beautiful valley to the watch tower or locally known as Ta-Dzong. It was converted into the National Museum in the 1960s by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. A short walk downhill brings you to the Rinpung Dzong, which serves as the administrative centre and school for monks. Walk further down crossing the traditional bridge into Paro town. Stroll around the market and return to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 05: PARO SIGHTSEEING
Hike to Taktsang monastery (3,120 m / 10,236 ft; 2-3 hrs).
This hike which is all the way uphill takes you through villages and pine forests. The monastery clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro valley. It is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava came in the 7th century on a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for 3 months. The demons who were trying to stop the spread of Buddhism, were subdued, and converted the Paro valley into Buddhism. Return to Paro town visit enroute Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06: DEPARTURE FROM PARO
Transfer to the airport for your departure home.
