WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS ADVENTURE TRIP

Day 01:
Fly to Paro from Kolkata/Delhi. Arrive at Paro airport and then transfer to your hotel in Paro. Evening free. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 02:
After breakfast drive north of Paro valley to ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. From this fort Bhutanese repelled several invasions by Tibetan armies. Then take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, the most famous of Bhutanese monasteries. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of Tigress and meditated at this Monastery, hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. The excursion to Taktsang Monastery takes about 6 hours – round trip. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Day 03: PARO - JANGCHULAKHA (3,780 m; 6-7 hrs)
Drive till Damchena village where your trek will start. Walk through thick alpine forests and rhododendrons and you may see yak herders in the area. There are fascinating views of Jhomolhari and other snow-capped mountains and you can also hear some monal peasants during the day. We continue our uphill walk to reach a yak herders’ pasture at Jangchulakha with outstanding views of the Himalayan mountains. Overnight at camp in a yak pasture near the hillside.

Day 04: JANGCHULAKHA - JIMILANGTSHO LAKE (3,880 m; 6 hrs)
The trail follows the ridge and at times through juniper trees and dwarf rhododendrons. The views of the mountain valleys of Thimphu and Paro are sensational. After making an ascent and then a steep descent, we arrive at Jimilangtsho Lake. The lake is famous for their giant sized trout fish. Near the camp, you can have great views of Jichu Drake, the peak representing the protective deity of Paro. Overnight camp close to Jimilangtsho Lake.

Day 05: JIMILANGTSHO LAKE – PHAJODING (4,100 m; 6 hrs)
The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and bypasses the lake of Janetsho. You may come across some yak herder’s camp and get an idea how these people live. The trail winds and undulates with magnificent views of the Himalayas across deep valleys. Simkotatsho Lake can be seen below after crossing one final spur. We continue our trek until we reach the yak pasture. Camp here overnight.

Day 06: PHAJODING – MOTHITHANG (4-5 hrs); DRIVE TO THIMPHU (30 mins)
Today you will begin with a gradual climb to a small saddle at 4,150m from where you enjoy majestic view of Mount Gangkar Puensum and other Himalayan peaks in clear weather. You will then descend to another small lake and then climb to the Phume La pass (4,210 m) which is adorned with beautiful prayer flags. From here, you will enjoy great view of Thimphu city far below. The trail slowly descends through junipers trees to a community hall near Phajodhing (3,870 m). Walk way downhill to Thimphu through a forests of blue pine and juniper until you arrive the road head of Sangaygang on the outskirts of Thimphu valley. Then drive 20 minutes to your hotel in Thimphu. Overnight at hotel in Thimpu.

Day 07: THIMPHU
Commence sightseeing in Thimpu with includes visit to the Institute of Zorig Chusum where students undertake a course on the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan; National Library, which holds an extensive collection of Buddhist texts and manuscripts, some dating back to several hundred years back, as well as modern academic books, mainly on Himalayan culture and religion; The Post office; National Memorial Chorten, built in the memory of the late 3rd King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck,; Kuensel Phodrang/ The Giant Buddha – a huge statue more than 50 meters high, situated on top of a hill overlooking the city. Overnight at same hotel in Thimpu.
