Ahhhh!!! To be one with Mother Nature, and experience the multitude of her richness in bio diversity and wildlife! Well, camping provides the perfect gateway. Choose to relax, or test your physical endurance, whatever you choose; here are five tips to an ideal and safe camping experience.
WATER:
One cannot stress enough, the importance of carrying this life quenching elixir on your trip. If you plan to camp in the wilderness, be sure to carry water purifying tablets, lest you run out of water and need to resort to quenching your thirst from various aquatic resources. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.
SURVIVAL KIT
: Have a survival kit handy in case of exigencies. Basics, like bandages, cotton, band-aids, cream for burns, sunscreen, and bug repellent sprays. Swiss knife, Flash light, waterproof matches, a compass or a GPS, spare batteries. Toiletries, like toothpaste, tooth brush, soaps and other essentials.
CAMPING GEAR
: Invest in an all-weather gear:
- Tent: should endure harsh weather conditions and also keep insects out. Depending upon the number of people crowding in, choose the size.
- Backpack: come in various sizes that are measured in liters. For a 2-4 days hike a 60-80 liter backpack is sufficient. If you are camping with a vehicle in tow, a small back pack is recommended as you can come back to replenish your supplies.
- Sleeping bags: A bag that snugly fits and meets the correct temperature requirement depending on the weather at the time you are camping, as it is ideal to have a pleasant experience. An air pillow or a backpack can double up as a pillow.
FOOD ESSENTIALS
: Dry fruits (non-salted) are nutritious; they do not weigh much and also occupy less space. Canned ready to eat food, soups, tea/coffee/milk in powder form are great choices. If you do intend to cook, carry along light weight stove, newspapers, frying pan or barbecue kit.
HYGIENE
: Wear comfortable clothes that absorb moisture. Full sleeved clothing, knee length socks (to prevent insect bites) and a good pair of shoes. Baby wipes, sanitizer, and toilet rolls complete the list. Ensure that you preserve nature, and leave the area as it was. Dig a deep hole to conceal human waste. Clear it of trash and other items which may damage the environment.
Being one with nature doesn’t mean you have to absolutely rely on nature to provide. If you can pack sensibly, your camping trip will be a breeze and an affair to remember.
