Adventure Tourism: Deep Sea Diving The Call Of The Oceans

Deep Sea Diving

Looking at the ocean waves I at times feel the sea calling me, but I always ask myself am I are ready for it.

Moreover ‘Ocean science’ over the years has proved the existence of another world which lies underneath the seas & is waiting to be fully explored.

Such enigmatic aspects of the ocean is enticing enough for many a folks who would like to explore what lies beneath. No wonder! Deep sea diving has put adventure tourism into a league of it’s own.

And one lady who has done it all is ‘Sarita Singh’ who hails from Punjab. Here is how she puts it in her own words about her date with the ocean. “I remember how I overcame the fear of night diving. You have to jump into pitch dark water with nothing but a tiny torch attached to your head. Visibility is very low but it can be a whole lot of fun.”

True to what has been said above, indeed makes deep sea diving a niche element when it comes to adventure tourism as it involves going 100 to 120 feet deep into the sea, carrying heavy equipment and that too with a rationed amount of oxygen, surely needs some tough nerve.

But then there is always the lighter side of things ….so as a prelude to diving deep one can acquaint oneself with a trimmed down version of deep sea diving by doing some shallow diving or call it ‘snorkeling’.

There are a couple of adventure tourism destinations in India offering a variety of avenues for shallow diving, e.g. the coast of Goa and Pondicherry along with some parts of Kerala are the places where one can look for some good ‘snorkeling’ & ‘diving’ options, as one gets to be as close as possible to the plethora of marine flora & fauna allowing one to witness the fascinating range of corals harboring aquatic sea creatures like crustaceans, moray eels, manta rays, grouper, parrot fish, triggerfish, and if you’re lucky, even turtles and dolphins.

As for our expert diver Sarita she prefers the Havelock Island belonging to the Andamans famous for it’s unexplored dive sites & wrecks offering the best marine life one can find in India.

Lastly, all I can say is that be it diving deep or shallow diving, both brings out the best in you and it is indeed a therapy of sorts bestowed by Mother Nature.

Well …next time you see the waves coming by…you know it could be your call …so put on your ‘snorkel Mask’ and get ready to take the plunge!
