The Gokyo Lake & Renjo La Pass Trek is a spectacular 13-day journey through the heart of the Everest (Khumbu) region, offering a quieter and more scenic alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp route. This trek takes you through traditional Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, rhododendron forests, and dramatic high-altitude landscapes, culminating in the stunning turquoise Gokyo Lakes and the challenging Renjo La Pass.
Along the way, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Ama Dablam. Carefully planned acclimatization days, comfortable teahouse lodges, and diverse terrain make this trek ideal for experienced trekkers seeking both adventure and cultural immersion in the Himalayas.

ITINERARY IN BRIEF
Upon arrival in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, meet assist and drive
Mulkot via Dhulikhel. Upon arrival check in at a guesthouse.
Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Early wake up and drive to Manthali Airport, which takes around an hour. Shortly
afterwards board the flight 20 min. flight to Lukla (2,880m) with snowline of the
Himalayan Range in the north and the rugged landing in the Lukla airport is said to be
one of the most spectacular in the world.
After a short break the trek starts by following the trail leading to the northwest
direction, which ultimately descends to the riverside camp at Phakding (2,652m).

Follow the Bhote Koshi through the forest and pasture land, along the valley dotted
small Sherpa settlements. Cross the Bhote Koshi and climb steeply, along switching back
trail, lies the large Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar. Near half way point, view of Everest
(8848 m) and Lhotse (8,511m) come into sight. This prosperous town is largest
in
Khumbu. Mt. Thamserku (6,648 m) and Kwangde Ri (6624 m) loom along the east and
west of the village. The sacred mountain Khumbila (5707 m) dominates the skyline along
the west.

After breakfast start climb to famed Hotel Everest View hotel in Shyangboche at an
altitude of 3,880m. After a short break start descend down to Khumjung Village for
lunch. After lunch visit Khumjung Village which is one of the largest Sherpa Village in
Khumbu region, you can also visit the school built by Sir Edmond Hillary. Shorty
afterwards descend down to Kyumjuma.

The trail leads along the hillside trail with views of Amadablam and Thamserku before
descending into the rhododendron forest and then towards an impregnable looking rock
wall on the north side of the valley. A giant's causeway of the granite step makes an
incredible route up the face before the trail emerges the high grazing ground. One hour
further is a charming chorten, from here you can get a magnificient view of the
Amadablam (6856m), Kangtega (6685m) and Thamserku (6648m) standing high above
the meadows of Thyangboche monastery. The trail drops quickly nearly all the way to
the Dodh Kosi before leaving the route to Phortse. There is a good lunch spot set among
birch and rhododendron. The camp spot at Dole is reached after a stiff but attractive
climb.

The first hour involves steady climbing before the trail contours to Luza (4370 m), a
small grazing spot with potato fields. Phanga village is reached after a short climb.
Duration of trek 5 ½ hours.
Note: If you start feeling the effects of the altitude, you may break journey at
Machhermo (4450m) which has a very nice trekkers lodge.

A steady plod soon leads to the first of the Gokyo Lakes and then to the main lake
before reaching the camping ground for lunch.
Note: Both the fifth and sixth days are short trek days in order to get acclimatized with
the altitude one is gaining.

Climb Gokyo Ri and return to camp. Unlike the Kalapatthar hill from Lobuche, the foot of
Gokyo Ri lies five minutes away from the stream that feeds the Gokyo Lake. After two to
three hours of "huff and puff" you reach the summit not to be disappointed for your
effort at all, as the views from here are well worth the effort you put in. Everest
(8848m), showing more of it's northern flank than from Kala Pattar, with Makalu
(8475m) further to the east and Cho Oyu (8153m) towards the north make a
mesmerizing view to watch.
Return back to Gokyo Ri after spending a wonderful break at the summit.

After very early breakfast start your climb towards Ranjo la pass. You begin walking
along the Gokyo lake for an hour. From the edge of Lake Gokyo start steep climb mostly
through the rocky train until you reach on top of Renjo la pass at an altitude of 5,360m.
From the pass you can have a breathtaking view of Gokyo lakes and panoramic view of
Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Everest and other giant peak in Everest region. Shortly afterwards,
start descends down to Lungden (4,300 m) in Bhotekoshi Valley.

Start your another long day trek to Namche Bazaar. You begin walking through the
Bhote Koshi Valley until you reach to Thame Village for lunch. After a lunch walk down
to Bhote Koshi River. Cross Bhotekoshi River on suspension bridge and start pleasant
walk mostly through the Rhododendron, Pine and Juniper forest.

After breakfast start backtrack to Lukla.

After early breakfast walk to Lukla Airport to board the flight to Kathmandu. Upon
arrival meet waiting vehicle and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is for most deserve
rest.
Overnight at hotel.
Contingency day in Kathmandu in case of delay. Sightseeing will be arranged.
Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
Free until final departure transfer to Kathmandu’s International Airport.
