Tajikistan – Cutting Edge of Adventure Travel
Once the playground of spies and mountaineers, Tajikistan today is safe, stable and offers some of the best adventure travel on the planet. The Pamir Highway makes for one of the worlds greatest road trips; where you can wind your way along high altitude mountains and visit some spectacular high altitude lakes… And there is the added thrill of knowing that not many have had the chance to experience this.
Start your journey in the picturesque Dashnube, regarded as one of Central Asia’s prettiest cities, and drive to Khalikhumb and then to Khorog. This stretch is an 8 hour drive on the Afghan border along the Pyanj river which forms a natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Afghanistan is literally just a stones throw away and you can see the tiny Afghan mud houses all along the drive. From Khorog head to Murghab in the Gorno Badakshan region. You can also visit the remote and beautiful valley, the Wakhan corridor which is an autonomous region shared by Afghanistan and Tajikistan where you will be greeted with spectacular views of the Hindu Kush mountains. The turquoise blue waters of the Pamir lakes will take your breath away. The road hugs the Chinese border at several places and if you are lucky enough you may catch a glimpse of the endangered Marco polo sheep found in the Pamir Mountains. From here you could enter Kyrgyzstan through the Kyzl Art Pass. If you are on the look out for remote locations and unique cultural experiences, and if mountains are where you get your kicks from, Tajikistan is the place to be!
